Through the work of the sub-committee, the Society has been instrumental in saving many buildings of note including Addington Square, Denmark Hill Station and part of Windsor Walk. The Society has also been instrumental in influencing new development to make a positive contribution to the area, and works with local residents and tenants groups where there are common issues. The current composition of the Planning sub-committee is: Tim Gaymer, Anthony Kyrke-Smith, Elizabeth Borowiecka, Jason Leech, Robert Potz, Jonathan Hunt, Paul Cohoon, Somayya Yaqub, Michael Galt and Tom Harvey. Potential new members are welcome to attend a meeting as an observer initially. The Society is currently under represented by members from the Myatt Fields and Brunswick Park areas.

Construction of a new 4 bedroom house on woodland.
COMMENT: The proposed construction is not in keeping with the neighbouring buildings and is on pretty woodland, the Camberwell Society is therefore sympathetic to the concerns of residents on the loss of amenity. It also seems quite possible that the site is subject to a covenant in favour of other owners of surrounding properties, which prevents any building; this may not be fully appreciated by the owner. Although we are aware that Planning Permission can be granted in respect of land which is not in the ownership of the applicant, in this special case, where it would appear that local residents are being deprived of their amenity, our view is that before the application is considered, the applicant (and perhaps owners of other properties in Beaulieu Close) should be asked to prove the status of the land by the production of Land Registry certificates showing the absence or otherwise of a Covenant. The Society also suggests that the applicant be required to re-submit proposals for a less imposing structure with an improved design and more accurate drawings.
The Camberwell Society recommends that the Council reject the proposed construction
