Conversion of existing single family dwelling into three self contained
flats incorporating: removal of existing two storey rear wing of
property; construction of part two storey and part single storey rear
extension and excavation of basement level light well to rear garden;
enlargement of existing basement level light well to front garden and
construction of new steps from pavement level to basement level.
The planning application is a resubmission
The plans demonstrate no sensitivity to the architectural features of
the Victorian building and the proposed mansard windows at front and
rear are wholly out of proportion with the building and out of character
with its style. Similarly the balconies proposed at the rear of the
property look strangely institutional and it is not clear whether they
are to be used for access. The Design and Access statement makes no
mention of materials for windows and balcony railings, though we note
that the application form refers to replacement of timber framed windows
with timber framed windows., which is some relief.
The Camberwell Society recommends that the Council reject the proposed
mansard windows at front and rear and seek further clarification as to
the materials and purpose of the rear balconies proposed.
