Excavation to form a single storey basement to the footprint of the
house and elevational alterations
If thought correct to allow a basement to this Edwardian property, then
the new owners’ internal changes are not of planning concern although
proximity to 187 Camberwell Grove may be considered a factor that should
limit the basement.
The proposed external changes whilst generally in keeping the character
of this Conservation Area property, the introduction of arch headed
windows for the new basement windows, to a property where there are no
other arch headed windows, seems inappropriate and unnecessary.
Whilst the new owners may not have a disabled daughter (as the previous
owners) to lose the ramp between levels to be able to access the front
door without steps seems short sighted in terms of Lifetime Homes and
making a house fully accessible to all abilities (via the front
entrance).
