24/AP/0379 | Temporary display of an externally illuminated shroud advertisement | 17 Camberwell Green London Southwark SE5 7AF

It has become clear that permission granted in the last 5 years for
scaffolding with shrouds and advertising panels to be erected on
prominent building in central Camberwell to facilitate repair works to
those buildings has not in the event resulted in the repair works taking
place.

352 — 354 Camberwell New Road and 3 Camberwell Church Street are
examples.

The effects of the scaffolding and shrouds has been to adversely impact
the appearance of the conservation area, distract drivers and cyclists,
create high level opportunities for graffiti artists, reduce the
daylight in the upstairs rooms of the buildings affected and impede
pedestrian progress along the pavements.

We understand that, in this case, the applicants intend to carry out the
building repairs identified in their planning application. Whilst the
Camberwell Society considers building maintenance to be an important and
worthwhile activity, we would like to be re-assured that planning
permission for a scaffolding shroud and advertising on this property
will only be granted if the proposed repair works are going to happen.
