First Georgian Houses Walk Next Sunday (12th)

The first of two Georgian Houses walks for members and their guests is taking place this Sunday (12th October) from 2-5pm starting at 34 Grove Lane. The second will be on 26th October.

On the walk you will hear about and see inside some of the houses originally built for the ‘middling sort’ during the reigns of George III and IV. You will hear how this area developed and how these house designs evolved from those of a generation or so before. You will also hear about how the houses were lived in when they were first built, with no mains water or drainage, cooking and heating by coal fires and boilers, no electricity, no electric lighting, and no fridges or washing machines, but with the help of servants.

Each of the two walks will be visiting a different mix of houses so members may wish to opt for just one of the walks or attend both if they wish.

Tickets are available to members and their accompanied guests. Accompanied children under 14 go free and will not need a ticket. You can buy your tickets at the following links

If you are not a member you can still buy tickets but you will have to join at the gate if you haven’t already done so on-line at https://www.camberwellsociety.org.uk/membership/

All proceeds from the event will go to the Camberwell Society’s charity of the year. This year the charity is Read Easy Southwark who organise volunteer reading coaches to promote adult literacy in the area.
