New care home at 10 Love Walk London Southwark SE5 8AE

It is disappointing that Mission Care have merely resubmitted their widely criticised 2023 application for a care home at 10 Love Walk.

The Camberwell Society has no objection in principle to the construction of a new care home on this site, but object to the poor quality of the design .

An example of a well-designed care home in Southwark is the Appleby Blue alms-houses in Bermondsey, which has demonstrated how the lives of the residents can be enhanced by sensitive and imaginative design. We have no doubt that the same quality can be achieved on this site too.

The shortcomings of the application have been clearly set out in the reports by Pollard, Thomas Edwards, Donald Insall Associates and Historic England, as well as by local groups: The Camberwell Society, Southwark Conservation Area Advisory Group and the Grove Lane Resident’s Association and many other individuals living locally.

The Mission Care application fails to meet its own stated design objectives of thoughtful and humane care of the elderly as well as Southwark’s planning objectives for the protection of the historic built environment next to a Conservation Area.

The Camberwell Society objects to this application.
